With the changes of seasons comes a slight shift in my overall look, often involving dying my hair a darker hue in addition to incorporating bolder and edgier color palettes in my wardrobe and makeup. With that said, I’m always on the hunt for new items and products to suit the current season.
Whereas the majority of my beauty products remain constant, my lip color is one thing in particular that I like to change often. Aside from purchasing for myself, nothing screams personal, affordable, and thoughtful for a girlfriend, bestie, or co-worker more so than LipSense — the perfect waterproof, smear-proof, and kiss-proof, long-wear lipstick.
I first heard about LipSense through my sweet friend Erika, who is a LipSense Distributor (and also happened to work as a clinic manager for the same urgent care company as I did back in the day). When we last spoke a few months ago, I admitted to owning nearly every lip kit by a popular celebrity’s cosmetic line and explained to her that although I liked the product’s formula and long-wearability, at the end of the day, I didn’t like how chapped and uncomfortable my lips felt. She insisted I give LipSense a try, claiming that it was far superior to any other liquid/long-wear lipstick and because of her passionate belief of the product’s mechanism of action (mind you, she is also a nurse), I agreed to give it a try.
I’m wearing LipSense in “Purple Reign,” which arrived as part of a set (or as LipSense calls a “Collection”). LipSense Collections contain a color, gloss (used to seal in color and turn a matte lip to a high sheen gloss), and remover (appropriately named “Oops Remover,” as I may or may not have had a few oops’s during my first few uses 😉 ).
Being that this blog is used as a platform to only share what Josh and I genuinely enjoy, it goes without saying that with all sincerity that I loved using this product and am planning to purchase more colors. Although, my decision may prove difficult considering there are over 70 different colors to choose from.
I love this product because it is incomparable to any other lipstick. Many of the brands currently in my stash have not only left an imprint on my Starbucks cup (blowing my cover when I attempt to swap out Josh’s cappuccino for mine because his somehow always tastes better) but have also left my lips feeling chapped, cracked and painful in a matter of hours. Because I love a long-wearing lipstick, I’ve had to invest in lip scrubs and healing ointments to correct the aftermath.
To all of you who’ve experienced similar scenarios with liquid lipsticks, LipSense was truly the missing piece to my winter makeup routine and is truly a remarkable product. However, I will admit that there was a slight learning curve to the application process, hence the need for the “Oops Remover”.
It is recommended to apply three layers of color for maximal staying power. The pointed tip of the applicator is meant to line your lips, the longer side is used to apply color to fuller lips, and the shorter side is used to apply color to thinner lips. When the application of the third and final layer of color is dry, the process is complete with a swipe or two of LipSense “Glossy Gloss” which contains ultra-nourishing Shea butter and helps keep your lips moist, plump, and protected from the elements.
While using LipSense, your lips will go through a brief “exfoliation” phase — a process that slowly breaks up dead skin cells and years of wax buildup from chapsticks and other lip products. I wore my LipSense color for about one week and had my photos taken toward the end of the exfoliation phase. However, at the end of my week-long test, my pout appeared softer, smoother, and provided a “Perfectly Sealed Kiss“.
Therefore, whoever may you find yourself under the mistletoe with this holiday season, make it a kiss-proof smooch with a LipSense liquid lip color. 😉
