It was about 2am on a Saturday morning when Josh spontaneously asked me to do a photo shoot. I was tired and initially reluctant (I mean, a bubble bath and jammies just sounded too good) but finally agreed. Enthusiastically, Josh insisted that we couldn’t pass on the opportunity, as we both find acting on creative, spur-of-the-moment ideas to be the most fun and enjoyable. Sometimes it’s far too easy to allow everyday life to get in the way or distract you from having fun or being adventurous, even if it means staying up past 4 am just to take photos in a pretty dress with some heavy-duty equipment. However, when a rare opportunity presents itself, we generally choose not to opt-out, as the unknown excitement can produce something spectacular.
Unbeknownst to Josh, he took on the role of “creative director” and styled me (That’s right – Josh styled ME) with a primary color scheme in mind. Knowing the backdrop would primarily consist of the yellow bulldozers, he wanted me to wear something blueish-purple and “fancy” that would pop. I chose a Halston Heritage blue tiered chiffon cocktail dress I had previously hunted down years ago after seeing it in the Sex and the City movie (worn by Sarah Jessica Parker). Unfortunately, the dress is no longer available, but similar styles can be found here, here, here and here.
The pink faux leather tote bag (which also happens to be reversible and super affordable) provided ample space for Josh to stash a bouquet of yellow tulips that we had purchased earlier that day (to be used for a how-to/DIY flower arrangement post) which doubled as a great prop in our impromptu shoot.
Have you ever had a great experience that began as a completely spontaneous idea? We’d love to hear your stories and see links to your pics in the comments section below!
