I’m willing to bet that most Dallas-based couples, like ourselves, can always find plenty to do during the weekends. But every once in a while, your significant other and yourself may find yourselves craving a little change of scenery. So when that day comes, we have concocted the perfect weekend road trip for you.
Less than 85 miles and just over an hour from the Dallas Galleria Mall, Choctaw Casino & Resort is a great weekend getaway. As one of many destinations in Oklahoma where gambling is legal, the aesthetics inside these newly developed casinos bear a close resemblance to any mediocre casino anywhere off of the infamous Las Vegas Strip.
Taylor and I are by no means qualify as “gamblers”. However, we do take advantage of the friendly staff and patrons at the $5 Blackjack tables to refresh our memory on blackjack rules & odds during the middle of each dealt hand.
Though by design, the odds in gambling are definitely not in your favor, for us, the odds of having a fun and memorable time are always in our favor. The same can apply for you – so long that you’re a good loser (apparently, no one has a problem winning a little cash).
Prior to your trip, we recommend setting limits. Taylor and I have made three trips in the last two years, and each time we brought with us $200 along with a strict agreement that there would be no additional trips to the ATM. Thus far, our winnings vs. losings have unfortunately been a wash. On both of our first two trips, we brought $200 and lost $200. However, our most recent trip to Kickapoo (side note: we have not stopped giggling about the name of the city – no offense Kickapooers ha ha) brought us back to break-even! Taylor and I happily left with an extra $400 in our pockets, $60 of which was profit from slot machines! I guess we got lucky.
In closing statements, we leave you with this takeaway: Oklahoma Casinos are highly recommended by Taylor and myself as a great couples getaway, as gambling can be a fun and exciting experience. But, be sure to set firm boundaries and limits without breaking.
What you chose to do after a night of gambling is between the both of you, but just remember, whatever happens in Kickapoo, stays in Kickapoo.

We were so excited to see an operating pump jack in real life and were compelled to make a U-turn on the highway just to take a photo up close. This situation reminded us of an oil and gas client we’ve been working with since 2014 and recently launched a new website for called We Buy Mineral Rights.

(For those who don’t know, The Nodding Donkey happens to be the name of a popular bar in uptown Dallas.)
